Mayor GRECO hostS grand opening of
fire station 21 in hunter’s green

On Friday, November 16, 2001, City of Tampa Mayor Dick A. Greco and Tampa Fire Rescue participated in the grand opening and dedication of Tampa Fire Station 21 located in the Hunter’s Green area of New Tampa at 18902 Green Pine Lane.
Several City officials along with community representatives gathered to celebrate the opening of Tampa Fire Station 21.   Mayor Greco addresses the crowd of over 100 that gathered to commemorate the opening of Tampa Firehouse #21.

The City held a formal ground breaking ceremony for the fire station on January 31, 2001 during Burn Awareness Week.  LeChase Construction built the new Tampa station on property deeded to the City for fire protection by the developers, Hunter’s Green Development Corp. and Markborough Florida.  The official opening signifies the completion of the $1.28 million, 9,122 square foot project funded from bond revenues.

City Council Member Shawn Harrison speaks about the importance of this fire station and crew to the New Tampa community.   With Mayor Greco at the wheel and Fire Chief Pete Botto riding shotgun, Engine-21 makes it's first "response" from the new station.  The flag in the background was hand-made by a local elementary school.

The City of Tampa now operates 21 fire stations.  Tampa Fire Rescue has not seen the addition of a new fire facility since Station 20 was dedicated in 1988.  Fire Station 21 houses a paramedic fire engine company and a new $275,000 truck.  Tampa Fire Rescue has hired 17 new employees to fully staff this station.  The crew will provide fire and emergency medical care to a large portion of New Tampa and the University of South Florida.  The new station has the capacity to accommodate additional crews for service as the needs of the area grow.
