IAFF LOCAL 754 ALONG WITH THE AAA AUTO CLUB SOUTH INSURANCE COMPANY DONATES TO LIFESAVING PROGRAM

Every one in a while, there is a program that delivers such an intense emotional impact and lifesaving message that it is necessary to keep the program thriving. Such is the case with S.A.F.E., Stay Alive From Education.

Tampa Firefighter’s Union President Al Suarez has attended SAFE programs in the past and was impressed by the powerful message that SAFE provides.  The firefighter’s union along with AAA Auto Club South Insurance Company (ACSIC) were so moved by the S.A.F.E. message and presentations that the company decided to donate $10,000 each year to help fund the program.

Lt. Greg McCarty (TFR-ret) and Lt. Ronny Garcia (Tampa Fire Rescue) accept a check from Jack Ballinger, vice-president IAFF Local 754.  The money will help to continue the SAFE programs in Hillsborough County Schools.

The S.A.F.E program consists of state certified paramedics and specially trained law enforcement representatives conducting presentations in local high schools and colleges about the perils of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, not wearing safety belts and the trauma associated with these dangers.

“The presentations are emotionally powerful,” said Larry Patrick, vice president of Auto Club South Insurance Company. "They really impact the students in the aspect that they can see what can happen to them if they choose not to wear safety belts while as a passenger or driver in a vehicle or choose to drink and drive.”

Larry Patrick, vice president of AAA Auto Club South Insurance Company presents a $10,000 check to Ronny Garcia and Greg McCarty.  The money will be used to conduct and expand the SAFE program, a driver safety education program conducted in Hillsborough County High Schools.

AAA ACSIC presented representatives from the S.A.F.E program with a check for $10,000 to help fund the program.  The presentation of the check was conducted following a S.A.F.E presentation at Plant High School on October 11th.  The Tampa Fire Fighters Union also be presented a check to help fund the program.

“After watching one presentation, ACSIC knew that we wanted to financially help this program,” said Patrick. “This is the third year we have funded the program, and knowing that S.A.F.E has saved even one life makes this program worth its weight in gold.”
