Symptoms
bulletBruises
bulletCoughing or vomiting blood
bulletRectal bleeding
bulletVaginal (but not menstrual) bleeding
bulletBlood in urine
bulletBleeding from the nose or ear
bulletSkull, chest or abdominal wounds
bulletDizziness
bulletFainting
bulletWeak pulse
bulletShortness of breath
bulletShallow breathing
bulletDilated pupils
bulletPale, clammy skin

 

Caution

Do you suspect a head, neck or back injury?

 

First Aid

  1. Check the victim's ABCs. If the victim is not breathing or does not have a pulse or heartbeat, begin CPR. While you wait for medical help, periodically recheck the victim's ABCs.
  2. Keep the victim calm and still. Do not give him anything to eat or drink.
  3. If the victim's arm or leg is swollen or mis-shapen, immobilize it.

  4. Begin treatment for shock while you wait for medical help.
