and Heat Exhaustion

Heatstroke
Symptoms

 | Flushed, dry, hot skin
 | Constricted pupils

 | Cool, clammy skin
 | Excessive perspiration
 | Dilated pupils

First Aid for
Heatstroke
- Quickly move the victim to a cooler site.
- Cool the victim. Place cool, wet cloths on the
forehead and torso, or wrap the victim in wet towels or
sheets. Fan him with an electric fan, a hair dryer set on
cold, or your hand. CAUTION: Do not use an alcohol rub to
cool the victim. Do not give him anything to eat or drink.
First Aid for
Heat Exhaustion
- Move the victim to a cooler site.
- Have the victim sit or lie down, and elevate his
feet.
- Cool the victim. Place cool, wet cloths on the
forehead and torso, or wrap the victim in wet towels or
sheets. Fan the victim with an electric fan, a hair dryer
set on cold, or your hand. Do not use an alcohol rub to
cool the victim.
- Give the conscious victim a cool drink. If the
victim is conscious and is able to swallow and breathe
without difficulty, give him salt water (1 teaspoon salt
mixed with 1 quart water) to sip. CAUTION: Do not force
the victim to drink. Do not give him anything that is
alcoholic or caffinated.
- If the victim's condition does not improve, call 911
or your emergency number.
