First Aid

Seizures — Febrile Seizures

Seizures in young children or infants are often caused by sudden high fevers.

  1. If the child has such a fever, take off his or her clothes.
  2. Sponge his body with lukewarm, not cold, water. CAUTION: Do not give the child a bath.
  3. Call your doctor for further advice. If this is the first time your child has had a febrile seizure and you cannot reach your physician immediately, take your child to the nearest emergency room.
