| Choking
— Aid for a Choking Infant
- To aid a choking infant, place the infant face down
over one arm, and deliver five gentle back blows.
- If the object is not expelled, turn the infant face
up, supported on your arm. Place two of your fingers
one finger-width below the nipple line. Deliver up to five
chest thrusts.
- If the choking infant is unconscious, hold the
infant's tongue and lift the chin. If you can see an
object and believe that you can easily remove it, slide
your little finger down the inside of the cheek and sweep
out the object.
- If the infant isn't breathing, keep the head tilted
with one hand and the chin lifted with the other.
Tightly seal your lips over the mouth and nose. Give two
breaths, removing your mouth between breaths. Breathe
forcefully but not so hard that air goes into the stomach.
