| Cardiac
and Respiratory Arrest — Child CPR
- Establish that the victim is unresponsive.
- If someone else is available, have them call for
help.
- Open the airway by tilting the head back, unless you
think the victim may have a neck
injury.
- Look, listen and feel for breathing.
- If the victim is not breathing, pinch the nostrils
closed, and give two slow breaths. Watch the chest
rise and allow for exhalation between breaths.
- Check for a pulse at the carotid artery: Gently
press two fingers, not your thumb, in the depression on
the side of the victim's neck next to the Adam's apple.
- If there is no pulse, place one hand in the middle of
the sternum, give five chest compressions and one slow
breath. Continue this cycle for about one minute.
- Check for a pulse.
- If you are alone, call for help.
- If there is no pulse, continue the cycles of five
chest compressions and one slow breath.
