First Aid
- Remove the victim from the chemical, being careful
not to get any of the chemical on yourself.
- Flush the burn with water, and remove contaminated
clothing. Place the burned area under running water
for at least 15 minutes to dilute the chemical. As you
flush the burn, remove any jewelry or clothing that may
have come in contact with the chemical. CAUTION: For a dry
chemical, such as lime, brush off any particles before
flushing with water.
- Check the victim's ABCs. If
the victim is not breathing or does not have a pulse or
heartbeat, begin CPR.
- Cover the burn with a clean, dry cloth.
